Choose a dog walking company if

your dog has to go out at a fixed time every working day, likes walking with other dogs and you like knowing there is always a replacement.

Choose a neighbour via KlusjeBij if

your dog prefers walking alone, you need help a few days a week, during a holiday or an injury, and you want someone from your own street who knows your dog.

New to the Netherlands? You can write your request in English. You pay the walker directly, in cash or with a payment request (Tikkie).

How to find someone to walk your dog

  1. Post a request for free

Tell people who your dog is, which days and times you need help and what you want to pay. A photo helps: dog lovers reply faster to a dog they already know a little.

  2. Choose from replies in your area

Neighbours, students and retired people with time and a love of dogs reply with their experience and price. You read their message and profile and choose.

  3. Meet and agree

Walk along together the first time. After that you arrange the walks directly with your walker. You pay each other, without subscription or commission.

What to look for in a dog walker

Start with a first meeting

Let your dog choose. One walk together says more than ten messages.

Put the practical things in writing

Lead or harness, can it go off the lead, what to do in the rain, where the key is. Put it in the chat, then nobody can forget.

Know who is liable

Under Dutch law (article 6:179 of the Civil Code), damage your dog causes is as a rule your responsibility as the owner, also during a walk with someone else. Check whether your liability insurance covers it.

Mind the rules in your municipality

How many dogs one walker may take at a time differs per municipality and per nature area. There is no national maximum.

Agree a fixed price per walk

Charging per walk is clearer for both sides than per hour. Say whether the trip there counts.

Keep a regular rhythm

Dogs thrive on routine. A regular walker on fixed days is nicer for your dog than someone different every time.

Frequently asked questions about dog walking

What does a dog walking service cost?+
On pet sitting platforms such as Pawshake and Rover, walkers usually ask 10 to 15 euros for a half-hour walk in 2026, some more; Rover adds a 15% service fee on top. For an hour you pay about 15 to 20 euros, for a second dog on the same walk 5 to 8 euros extra. Via KlusjeBij you agree the price yourself and pay no commission.
How do I find someone to walk my dog?+
Post a request for free on KlusjeBij with your town, your dog's breed and character, the days and times and what you want to pay. Dog lovers from your area reply, you read their message and profile and plan a first meeting. How quickly replies come depends on where you live: most helpers are signed up in the big cities.
Is it safe to let a stranger walk my dog?+
Always plan a first meeting with your dog there, walk along together the first time and agree how you can be reached. Only hand over a house key after a few good walks. Agree what happens if there is damage and put arrangements about the lead, food and medicines in the chat, so you can read them back later.
How often does a dog need walking?+
An adult dog usually goes out three to four times a day, with at least one longer walk of half an hour to an hour. Puppies and older dogs need to go out more often, but for shorter walks. If you work away from home for long days, a regular midday walk by a neighbour or student is the most requested solution.
What is the difference with a dog sitter or day care?+
A dog walking service picks up your dog, walks and brings it back. A dog sitter stays with your dog for part of the day or a whole day, at your home or at the sitter's. The price for day care or a holiday sitter is agreed per day, including the walks.
